Matthew J. Mierzwa, Jr.

Matthew J. Mierzwa, Jr., is the principal of Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A., which represents labor organizations, employee benefit funds, and union members in the areas of labor law, employee benefit law, and election law throughout the State of Florida. The firm represents more than 40 labor organizations and more than 25 benefit funds including pension, health and welfare, and retiree insurance, and apprenticeship funds. 


Matt's involvement in the labor movement began at an early age, as his father served as an IAM steward for decades and continued through the academic study of unions at Harvard College and Cornell University. Since then, Matt has been involved in the representation of labor unions and employee benefit funds for more than 40 years. Matt represents both public and private sector labor organizations in negotiations, in grievance-arbitrations, in administrative proceedings before PERC and the NLRB, and in state and federal court.  Matt also represents public employee and ERISA benefit funds including pension, health and welfare, retiree insurance, and joint apprenticeship training funds. 


Matt graduated from Harvard College in 1977, cum laude, in Economics; did graduate work at Cornell University's New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations; and received his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.  Matt was admitted to The Florida Bar on October 5, 1987, and is a member in good standing.  He is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and for the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.  He is a member of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance, The Florida Bar's Labor and Employment Law Section, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, and the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association.  He is a frequent speaker on employee benefits and labor-management issues and has taught college-level courses at Cornell University, Hobart & William Smith College, and Florida International University.

Mark W. Floyd

Mark W. Floyd is a shareholder of Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A., which represents labor organizations, employee benefit plans, and union members in the areas of labor law, employee benefit law, and election law throughout the State of Florida.  Mark represents both public and private sector labor organizations in negotiations, grievance-arbitrations, administrative proceedings before PERC and the NLRB, and state and federal courts.  Mark also represents public employee and ERISA benefit funds including pension, health and welfare, retiree insurance, and joint apprenticeship training funds.   


Prior to joining Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A., in 2003, Mark spent two years as an associate attorney with Previant, Goldberg, Uelmen, Gratz, Miller & Brueggeman, S.C., in Milwaukee, WI, where Mark represented private sector unions including the Teamsters, Carpenters, Sheetmetal Workers, Ironworkers, Bricklayers, Painters and Masons.  Mark first began working for a Union in 1993 when he worked in the offices of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 351, in Borger, Texas.  Mark worked for Local 351 during school breaks through 1998 and then worked for the Chicago Newspaper Guild and the United Steelworkers while in law school.  Mark has worked for or on behalf of Unions for 30 years.


Mark graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications.  Mark received his Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law where he was a member of the school’s Moot Court team.  Mark was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2003 and is a member in good standing.  He was admitted to The Wisconsin Bar in 2001 and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.  He is a member of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance, The Florida Bar's Labor and Employment Law Section, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, and the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association.

Erin F. Medeiros

Erin F. Medeiros is an associate attorney of Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A., which represents labor organizations, employee benefit plans, and union members in the areas of labor law, employee benefits law, and election law throughout the State of Florida. Erin represents both public and private sector labor organizations and public employee and ERISA benefit funds.

Prior to joining Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A. in 2018, Erin worked for nearly four years as an associate attorney with the Previant Law Firm, S.C. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she represented public and private sector unions, including Carpenters, Machinists, Steamfitters, Steelworkers, and Painters. 


Prior to attending law school, Erin began her career in the union-side labor and employee benefits law field as a paralegal in Boston, Massachusetts with Feinberg, Campbell & Zack, P.C., which represents public sector unions and private sector unions, including Bricklayers, Painters, and Teamsters, and their affiliated ERISA benefit funds. After four years in this position, she resigned in order to attend law school in Washington, D.C.


Erin graduated from Providence College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Political Science and Black Studies. In 2013, she received her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law. While at Howard Law, Erin was awarded a Peggy Browning Fellowship at AFSCME’s Office of the General Counsel for Summer 2012. During law school, she also interned as a student mediator in the Alternate Dispute Resolution Unit of the EEOC – Washington Field Office. 


Erin is licensed to practice in Florida (2018). Prior to practicing in Florida, Erin was licensed in Maryland (2013), Wisconsin (2014), and the District of Columbia (2015) and, now, maintains inactive memberships in those bars. She is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the Northern District of Illinois. Erin is a member of the Florida Bar Labor and Employment Law Section.  She has also been an elected Member to the Wisconsin Bar Labor & Employment Section Board since July 1, 2017. In addition to her bar memberships, she holds memberships with the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, and the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association.

Nathaniel J. Squires

Nathaniel J. Squires is an associate attorney of Mierzwa & Floyd, P.A. Nathaniel grew up in West Florida and graduated from the University of Florida in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. In 2025, Nathaniel received his Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School. 


While attending Cornell Law, Nathaniel engaged extensively with the labor movement. During his first summer, he interned with the New York State United Teachers, a public‑sector education & healthcare federation representing more than 1,200 local unions in New York State. He spent his second summer with James & Hoffman, P.C., a union-side labor and employment law firm based in Washington, D.C. In his third year, Nathaniel worked as a member of Cornell’s Labor Law Clinic, a program that allows law students to engage in supervised legal work on behalf of unions and employees in New York State. While working with the clinic, Nathaniel argued an unjust termination case at arbitration on behalf of the United Steelworkers and secured reinstatement and backpay for the discharged employee.  Nathaniel also served as the Labor & Employment Chair for Cornell’s chapter of the National Lawyers Guild. 


Additionally, Nathaniel was an Editor of the Cornell Law Review and later served on its Executive Board as Senior Articles Editor. Nathaniel wrote several substantial research papers on labor and employment law during his time on the Law Review. He was awarded the Arthur S. Chatman Labor Law Prize in July of 2025—an honor given to a third-year law student who demonstrates academic excellence in the field of labor law—for his work writing on low‑income noncompete agreements in Florida as violations of the 13th Amendment.


Nathaniel is licensed to practice in Florida (2025). Nathaniel is a member of the Florida Bar Labor and Employment Law Section, Public Interest Law Section, and the City, County, and Local Government Law Section. Nathaniel is also a member of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance.
